About a month ago, I wrote a post on the subject of service dogs for veterans with mental and physical concerns. I had hoped that veterans, as well as other vulnerable persons, could have access to dogs for comfort and companionship.

Service Dogs for Servicemen

As someone who sincerely believes that dogs are nature’s remedy for life’s many ailments, I was happy to read that “the Department of Veteran Affairs plans to establish a single regulation to provide assistive dogs, including both guide dogs and service dogs, to veterans.”

Portrait of Military Dogs in Iraq and Afghanistan

Since the advent of war, humans have employed dogs to assist them in their military campaigns. Recently, one of these dogs helped to raid Bin Laden’s compound.  Even though the dog has since become a sort of hero in the American consciousness, it is important to remember all the dogs that are currently employed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
