Nepal Religious Slaughter

In keeping with the theme of religious slaughter, the attached video depicts a mass animal sacrifice.  According to the video’s caption, “Thousands of Hindu devotees gather in Nepal for what is considered to be the world’s largest animal sacrifice festival.” During this festival, which is known as the Gadhimai festival, thousands of animals (approximately 250,000) are killed purely for symbolic purposes.  Should these activities be protected under “religious freedom?”  Does it make a difference that these animals are NOT being killed for food?  What about the sheer number of animals being killed in the mass sacrifice?  Does the number even matter?  What does matter do you think?

One more thing, I would like to thank the person who sent the link to me. (Thanks!)  I never would have known about this religious festival otherwise.
